A breast lift is a dramatic and rewarding plastic surgery procedure that fixes sagging and can modify the shape of your breasts. Dr. Shuster performs concentric and vertical (anchor-shaped) breast lifts depending upon your condition and preferences. Find out which procedure will benefit you most with a personal consultation.

Concentric Breast Lift

A concentric breast lift is also known as a doughnut mastopexy because of its circular incision. These periareolar mastopexy methods are most often performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation. The advantage of the concentric or periareolar mastopexy is that the scar is just around the edge of the areola. It is ideal for women with smaller breasts or those who have minimal ptosis (sagging). This technique involves concentric circles being outlined and cut around the areola. The resulting doughnut-shaped skin is removed, the nipple and areola are lifted, and the skin outside the incision is brought up and tied to the areola. These periareolar mastopexy methods are most often performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation. The advantage of the concentric or periareolar mastopexy is that the scar is just around the edge of the areola.

Vertical Breast Lift

For women with a greater degree of ptosis or have larger breasts, a vertical breast lift is more appropriate. The vertical mastopexy is a minimally invasive technique compared to traditional methods. The older methods involved a large anchor shaped scar. The vertical mastopexy avoids the long scar under the breasts while at the same time allows for a very effective and long lasting rejuvenation of the breasts.

To accomplish this, an incision is made at the new position for the nipple. Below this a "V" shaped incision is made. The breast is elevated and the two sides of the "V" are brought together. The nipple is not removed but rather repositioned along with the breast tissue. The resulting incision and scar are around the areola and under the areola towards the breast crease. The final incision is actually shaped like a lollipop leading some to call this the "Lollipop Lift".
