Eyelid Surgery FAQs

What are the benefits of eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, restores a youthful and more rested appearance to the eyes. Surgery can correct puffy eyelids and remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids.

What are the potential risks of eyelid surgery?

Like any surgical procedure, a candidate for eyelid surgery should be well informed. Potential complications include infection and hematoma (an accumulation of blood under the skin that may require removal). A temporary decrease in sensation, dryness, and irritation may arise following eyelid surgery. Fortunately, significant complications resulting from eyelid surgery are rare.

What kind of results can I expect from eyelid surgery?

It may take several weeks to get an accurate visual of your results due to the healing process. Eyelid surgery can make a patient appear to be more rested and refreshed. Removal of fat from eyelids causing puffiness is permanent and the condition generally will not recur. Skin laxity and fine wrinkling may return as skin continues to age.
