Eye bags are the dark and puffy skin underneath the eyes that produce an exhausted, aged, and overwhelmed look. A result of weakened muscles and support structures, age-related loss of skin elasticity also plays a role in the development of eye bags – and there’s very little that can be done to eliminate them once they have set in.

Of course, some ointments and serums are designed to reduce the appearance of eye bags. These work to different extents on different individuals, but even in best-case scenarios cannot be relied on to eliminate dark and puffy skin completely. Getting more sleep may help, but a lack of sleep doesn’t actually cause eye bags. (Although sleep deprivation may enhance their visibility.) This leaves more advanced cosmetic treatments as the best solution for under-eye puffiness – and chief among these is blepharoplasty.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is used to improve the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids. Dr. Shuster employs the most advanced blepharoplasty techniques to help produce natural-looking results while reducing risks for scars and other cosmetic imperfections.

Lower blepharoplasty is designed to remove wrinkles and droopy skin from the bottom lids. This option can also eliminate dark and puffy eye bags from underneath the eyes, restoring a rested and healthy look while simultaneously removing years from the face.

Upper blepharoplasty lifts and removes wrinkles from sagging eyelids. This will not eliminate eye bags, but it may improve vision in cases where sagging eyelids have caused an obstruction. During your initial consultation at our Hollywood, Florida office, our board-certified plastic surgeon will listen to your concerns and evaluate your upper and lower lids to help you understand what blepharoplasty can do for you.

Sunken Tear Troughs

The tear trough is the area between the lower lids and the cheeks. In addition to being prone to eye bags, tear troughs may also become sunken as you age. Blepharoplasty can help with this to an extent – by lifting and repositioning underlying structures – but dermal fillers may also be an option.

Dr. Shuster uses JUVÉDERM® to add volume to sunken tear troughs. If this filler will correct your concerns or enhance your blepharoplasty results, he will be happy to discuss the option during your initial consultation.

Dedicated to the complete satisfaction of every patient, Dr. Shuster will customize your treatment options to help produce the results you deserve and desire.

Please call Bernard Shuster, MD, at 954-961-5500 to schedule your consultation. We serve patients from Miami and throughout the country.
